Anthony Gordon Seals Five-Year Move to Barcelona

Anthony Gordon has become a Barcelona player after agreeing a five-year contract, ending his time at Newcastle United in a move that could represent a substantial profit for the Magpies.
Barcelona confirmed the signing on their official website, stating: "FC Barcelona and Newcastle United have reached an agreement for Anthony Gordon to become a Blaugrana for the next five seasons." The club did not disclose the transfer fee, though reports indicate the deal is worth £69.3 million — a notable return on the £45 million Newcastle paid Everton for the 25-year-old in January 2023.
Beating Bayern Munich to his signature
Gordon attracted serious interest from several top European clubs, with Bayern Munich among those chasing his signature. Ultimately, Barcelona — the Spanish champions, who faced Gordon three times in last season's UEFA Champions League — won the race.
The winger had four years remaining on the long-term contract he signed with Newcastle in 2024. He will first join up with England's World Cup finals squad before beginning his new chapter at the Catalan club.
A defining figure at Newcastle
Head coach Eddie Howe made Gordon a central part of his attacking plans, and the partnership Gordon forged with Alexander Isak — who departed for Liverpool in a controversial move last summer — became one of the most effective strike partnerships in the Premier League.
Gordon played a pivotal role as Newcastle ended a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy, lifting the Carabao Cup last season while also securing a second UEFA Champions League campaign in three seasons.
His 10 European goals this season — five of which came from the penalty spot — raised his profile considerably on the continental stage. Now he takes that momentum into LaLiga, eager to prove his ability at the highest level.
