Arsenal Reveal Emirates Upgrade Plans as Owners Acknowledge '20 Years' Milestone

Fresh from clinching the Premier League title, Arsenal are turning their attention to a significant overhaul of the Emirates Stadium, with the club's ownership publicly committing to upgraded facilities and increased capacity.

Co-chairman Josh Kroenke and CEO Richard Garlick appeared on The Overlap with Gary Neville and Ian Wright to outline the ambition, with Garlick noting that two decades at their current home makes this the right moment to act.

"We've been looking at these plans for a while now. It's 20 years since we moved to The Emirates and it feels like a good time to assess this now and see what we can do," Garlick said.

Garlick added that the club's desire to improve extends well beyond the pitch: "There's always ambition at this club. We want to improve in every way we can — the facilities, the stadium, the training ground, engaging with supporters around the world."

Matching rivals and raising the bar

Kroenke acknowledged the quality of local rivals Tottenham Hotspur's ground, describing it as a "beautiful" venue, but made clear that Arsenal's ambition is to match or surpass it. He pointed to the Kroenke Sports & Entertainment portfolio — including the SoFi Stadium in California, which holds 70,240 fans and can expand to over 100,000 for major events — as a benchmark for what could be delivered in north London.

"We have the SoFi Stadium and other facilities in the United States, so we're going to be working on best practices and try to bring that level over here," Kroenke said. "We want to give Arsenal supporters something special."

What the upgrade could look like

The Emirates Stadium currently accommodates just over 60,000 supporters, yet the club reportedly has a waiting list of 100,000 people seeking tickets — a figure that underscores the demand for more seats. Planned renovations are expected to include expanded capacity, new premium seating, and additional facilities, with the Populous architect group understood to be involved in the project.

The news arrives in the wake of Arsenal's Premier League title triumph under manager Mikel Arteta — the club's first league championship in over two decades — capping a sustained period of investment and squad-building. With a revamped Emirates Stadium on the horizon, the club's owners appear intent on ensuring the infrastructure matches the team's renewed ambitions.
