Bruno Fernandes Breaks Premier League Assists Record as Manchester United Down Brighton

Bruno Fernandes etched his name into Premier League history on the final day of the 2025/26 season, breaking the all-time assists record as Manchester United swept aside Brighton and Hove Albion 3-0 at the Amex Stadium.
The United captain's corner was met by a thunderous header from Patrick Dorgu, which crashed in off the underside of the crossbar in the 33rd minute — Fernandes' 21st league assist of the campaign, surpassing the previous records held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
United's clinical display
Fernandes and his teammates were in ruthless form throughout, carving Brighton open with sharp, incisive passing in and around the penalty area. It was Amad Diallo who provided the second goal, teeing up Bryan Mbeumo for a straightforward tap-in just before half-time in the 44th minute.
Early in the second half, Fernandes turned scorer to complete the rout in the 48th minute. His finish was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR overturned the decision and the goal stood. The win was Michael Carrick's 12th in 17 games as United manager — a remarkable record that secured a third-place finish in the Premier League.
Brighton secure Conference League football
For Brighton, the defeat meant they ended the campaign in eighth place — enough to qualify for the UEFA Conference League. The Seagulls had started the day in seventh, harbouring an outside chance of Champions League qualification, but were ultimately left depending on other results. Their European return — their first since 2023 — will come in the Conference League rather than on the continental stage they had hoped for.
The match was played in front of a crowd of 31,729 at the Amex Stadium, bringing the curtain down on another Premier League season in dramatic fashion.
