Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has claimed the Premier League's Player of the Season award, capping a remarkable individual campaign for the Portugal midfielder.

Fernandes equalled the all-time Premier League record for assists in a single season when he set up his 20th goal of the campaign in the match against Nottingham Forest last weekend. He also contributed 8 goals across 37 appearances, helping United secure third place and a return to the UEFA Champions League.

His creative output has been extraordinary — Fernandes created 132 chances throughout the season, more than any other player in the division. That figure is 43 ahead of the second-placed chance creator, Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai.

The award is decided by combining votes from the public with those cast by a panel of football experts. Fernandes becomes the first United player to win the honour since defender Nemanja Vidic lifted it back in 2011.

Earlier this month, he was also named the Football Writers' Association men's Player of the Year, making this a double individual honour for the United skipper.

Fernandes beat a strong shortlist that included Arsenal's David Raya, Gabriel, and Declan Rice, Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Brentford's Igor Thiago, Antoine Semenyo, and Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White.

United wrap up their Premier League season with a trip to Brighton on Sunday.
