Budapest Police Launch Investigation into Fan Brawl Ahead of Champions League Final

Police in Budapest have launched an investigation into a brawl involving fans of Arsenal and Paris St-Germain that broke out in the early hours of Saturday morning, ahead of the Champions League final.
Footage circulated on social media appearing to show around 30 supporters from each club trading blows and lighting flares on Kiraly Street, in Budapest's 7th district, at approximately 00:20 on May 30, 2026.
The BRFK 7th District Police Department confirmed it had opened proceedings against unknown individuals on charges of gang violence. Officers are currently analysing camera recordings from the area to identify those involved.
Record police deployment for the final
Authorities have described the Champions League final as a "high-risk event," with security preparations having begun more than a year in advance. Close to 4,000 police officers were deployed across the Hungarian capital on matchday, as tens of thousands of fans without tickets descended on the city.
Hungary's deputy national police chief Zoltan Janos Kuczik had stated earlier in the week: "This will be the largest single-day police deployment in Hungary's history."
Earlier arrests at fan festival
Saturday's street brawl was not the only disorder to mar the buildup to the final. On Friday, two Portuguese nationals and one British man were arrested following a separate fight at the official Champions League fan festival site. All three faced charges of disorderly conduct.
A further British man was arrested after climbing onto the roof of a parked car and damaging the vehicle, police confirmed.
