Riccardo Calafiori has admitted he harbours a desire to return to Roma one day, even as he remains fully focused on Arsenal's push for European glory this season.

The Italian defender, who came through Roma's youth academy, reflected on his ties to the club in an interview with Corriere della Sera, via VoceGiallorossa. "I'm happy here now, but I've left some unfinished business with Roma," Calafiori said. "I barely played for that team when I was very young. I'd like to return. Not right away, but sooner or later."

Pride in Roma's Champions League return

Calafiori expressed genuine joy at Roma's qualification for the UEFA Champions League, revealing that he has maintained close contact with several former teammates. "I'm delighted with what they've achieved. I've spoken to Mancini, Cristante, and Pellegrini. Some even wrote to me about my birthday, so we've connected it all together," he said.

Asked whether Roma could emulate Arsenal under new manager Gian Piero Gasperini, Calafiori was measured but supportive. "I don't know if Roma can become the new Arsenal, but I'm very happy they've placed their faith in Gasperini. I'm always rooting for them. I hope they can return to the levels I was used to when I was a kid."

Final focus at Arsenal

Any potential move back to Italy remains a distant prospect. Calafiori has been a key figure in Mikel Arteta's squad at the Emirates Stadium, helping Arsenal win the Premier League and now preparing for a UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday.

The 22-year-old's comments are not the first time he has spoken openly about his long-term future in Italy, but for now his attention is fixed firmly on Arsenal's pursuit of the biggest prize in European club football.
