Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that Casemiro will not feature in the club's final Premier League fixture against Brighton, with the Brazilian midfielder's time at Old Trafford now over.

Carrick revealed he made the decision the previous week, choosing to give the 34-year-old a send-off in the preceding match rather than the season's closing game.

"Case, I kind of decided last week would be his last game. That went well as we could have hoped. He's been fantastic. I've said a lot about Case, it was decided it could be a good time for him to finish," Carrick told the club's official website.

Casemiro joined United from Real Madrid in 2022 in a deal that could rise to £70 million, committing to a four-year contract with an option for a further season. The club announced in January that he would depart once that agreement expired.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Casemiro delivered in his final months at the club, contributing meaningfully to United's climb to third in the Premier League table.

Carrick also pointed to the occasion as an opportunity to give younger players meaningful minutes, stressing the club's desire to develop its next generation of talent.

"This club is about bringing young players through, getting the balance right going into games like this. We've got some really good young players to take the next step," he said.

With Casemiro's chapter at Old Trafford closed, United head into their final league match looking ahead to a new era.
