Chelsea ended the 2025-26 Premier League campaign with the most dismissals of any club this season, accumulating eight red cards in league fixtures — a new club record — and 11 across all competitions.

The total left Chelsea just one short of the all-time Premier League single-season record of nine, jointly held by Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers. Sunderland were the first to reach that mark during the 2009-10 campaign, with QPR matching them two years later in 2011-12.

The players sent off

Eight Chelsea players received their marching orders in the league this season: Robert Sanchez, Malo Gusto, Trevoh Chalobah, Moises Caicedo, Wesley Fofana — dismissed twice — Marc Cucurella, and Pedro Neto.

Head coach Enzo Maresca also received a red card late in Chelsea's victory over Liverpool in October, contributing to the club's record tally across all competitions.

Tottenham and the yellow card battle

Despite finishing second in the red card standings with four dismissals, Tottenham actually accumulated more yellow cards than Chelsea across the season — 99 compared to Chelsea's 90.

Chelsea's worst Premier League seasons for red cards

The 2025-26 campaign easily surpasses any previous season in Chelsea's Premier League history for dismissals. Their previous worst was six red cards in 2007-08, followed by five apiece in 2009-10, 2015-16, and 2005-06.

The Premier League's all-time worst red card seasons

Among the clubs to have accumulated the most red cards in a single Premier League season, Sunderland and QPR remain the joint record holders on nine. Chelsea's eight this campaign place them alongside Leicester City (1994-95), Blackburn Rovers (1998-99), West Ham United (1999-00), Newcastle United (2008-09), and Sunderland again (2013-14).
