Could Cristiano Jr. Follow His Father Into Al Nassr's First Team?

Cristiano Ronaldo has collected almost every honour the game has to offer, but a new frontier may await him — sharing a first-team pitch with his son, Cristiano Jr.

Saudi outlet Al Weeam has reported that Al Nassr, currently top of the Saudi Pro League, are weighing up a move to integrate Cristiano Jr. into their first-team setup when he turns 16 next season. The plan would begin with a place on the training roster before a potential promotion to the full squad.

No official confirmation has come from the club, but the prospect — while rare — would not be entirely without precedent. Several father-and-son pairs have shared a pitch at senior level throughout football history.

The Gudjohnsens — football's most famous father-son moment

The most celebrated example remains the Gudjohnsen family from Iceland. In 1996, a 17-year-old Eidur Gudjohnsen — who would go on to star for Chelsea and Barcelona — came on as a substitute for his own father, Arnor, during an international fixture. Iceland won 3-0 against Estonia, and the moment secured its place in football folklore. Arnor and Eidur remain the only father and son to appear for the same senior national team within a single match.

Rivaldo and Rivaldinho

Brazil legend Rivaldo returned to boyhood club Mogi Mirim in late 2013, joining the Brazilian Serie B side on a short-term deal as his career drew to a close. At the time, his son Rivaldinho was already in the squad, meaning the 1999 Ballon d'Or winner found himself lining up alongside his own child. Rivaldo retired in 2014, but came back again in the summer of 2015 — and the reunion produced a remarkable moment when both father and son scored in the same match, a 3-1 victory over Macae.

Henrik and Jordan Larsson

Former Celtic, Barcelona, and Manchester United striker Henrik Larsson returned to his boyhood club Hogaborg in 2013, aged 41, to help ease an injury crisis. His son Jordan, then 15, had just broken into the same first team. Larsson Sr. made only one appearance for the club, but it came alongside his son in a match against Tenhults IF.

When Henrik retired and moved into management, he eventually took charge of Helsingborg in 2015 — another of his former clubs — where Jordan had by then established himself firmly in the first-team squad.

The Eremenkos — the only father-son pair to win silverware together

Russia midfielder Alexei Eremenko Sr. spent four years at Finnish giants HJK Helsinki toward the end of his career. During that spell, his son Alexei Jr. was also part of the squad, and together they won back-to-back Veikkausliiga titles in 2002 and 2003. The 2003 season also brought the Finnish Cup, completing a league-and-cup double — making them the only father-and-son duo known to have lifted a trophy as teammates.

Even NBA legend LeBron James and his son Bronny, who made history by appearing together for the Los Angeles Lakers, have not managed to win a title as teammates — underlining just how extraordinary the Eremenko achievement remains.

Whether Ronaldo and Cristiano Jr. will add their names to this exclusive list remains to be seen, but the groundwork, at least according to reports from Saudi Arabia, is already being laid.
