Girona Relegated One Year After Champions League Adventure

Girona have suffered a dramatic fall from grace, dropping out of La Liga just twelve months after competing in the Champions League.
The Catalans, who had finished third in the Spanish top flight two seasons ago, needed a victory on the final day to preserve their place in the division. Instead, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Elche, sealing their relegation.
Mallorca joined them in going down despite recording a 3-0 victory over bottom side Real Oviedo. That win left Mallorca on 42 points — level with both Osasuna and Levante — but the head-to-head tiebreaker between the three clubs ultimately condemned them to the second tier.
European places decided on the final day
Champions Barcelona suffered a 3-1 defeat at Valencia, a result that extinguished Carlos Corberan's side's hopes of sneaking into the European places.
Sixth place and a Europa League spot was claimed by Celta Vigo, who secured a 1-0 win over Sevilla. Getafe also found reason to celebrate, their 1-0 victory over Osasuna earning them a seventh-place finish and Conference League qualification.
Carvajal bows out at the Bernabeu
Real Madrid rounded off their season with a 4-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe both getting on the scoresheet.
The occasion carried extra emotional weight as it marked the 451st and final appearance for Real Madrid of long-serving defender Dani Carvajal.
