Pep Guardiola has declared that his decision to leave Manchester City at the end of the season is correct, bringing the curtain down on one of the most decorated managerial tenures in football history.

The Spanish manager took charge of his final home match on Sunday, a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium, marking the symbolic end of a ten-year chapter in English football.

A manager who gave everything

Speaking on the club's official website, Guardiola was candid about his emotional and physical state after a decade at the helm of City.

"I am so tired. Seriously, I am so tired. I did everything. We did it. The memories I have of Barcelona and Bayern Munich are unbeatable but the luggage of memories I have from here from 10 years is more than any other," he said.

Guardiola was emphatic that this moment was the right time to step away — for both himself and the club.

"It is the right time. I will not miss it for a while, that's for sure. I feel deeply that the decision is the right decision for this club and the players. I thank the club for respecting it, they understood."

Twenty trophies and a legacy built on connection

Over his tenure, Guardiola accumulated 20 major trophies with Manchester City, transforming them into the Premier League's most dominant force of a generation and guiding them to their first-ever European crown. In 593 matches, he recorded 423 wins, 77 draws, and 93 defeats.

Among his many records, the 2017/18 City squad posted a Premier League season goal difference of +79 and scored 106 goals — standards that remain benchmarks for excellence in the English top flight.

Yet for Guardiola, the trophies were secondary to something deeper — the bonds forged with players and staff throughout his time in Manchester.

"I can't explain but the connections I had from day one, with the city I would say but especially the staff and the players. I knew we were connected. I'm sure John and Bernando will say the same and that is what I will bring back to Barcelona."

Guardiola arrived at City in 2016 after celebrated spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and his departure closes a chapter that reshaped the landscape of European club football.
