Hakimi Out for Weeks After PSG's Champions League Thriller Against Bayern Munich

Paris Saint-Germain's stunning 5-4 Champions League semifinal victory over Bayern Munich has been overshadowed by a significant injury blow, with the club confirming that Achraf Hakimi faces several weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.

The Morocco right-back picked up the injury late in Tuesday's first leg at the Parc des Princes following a collision with Konrad Laimer. Unable to continue, Hakimi was forced off despite PSG having exhausted all their substitution options — meaning he had to be helped from the field without a replacement.

Hakimi will not feature in the return leg in Munich next Wednesday.

"Having sustained an injury to his right thigh during the match against Bayern Munich, Achraf Hakimi will be out of action for the next few weeks," PSG said in an official statement.

Final ambitions and World Cup concerns

Should PSG progress past Bayern Munich, they would meet either Arsenal or Atlético Madrid in the Champions League final on May 30 — a prospect that now hangs in the balance without one of their most dynamic players available.

Beyond the club season, the injury raises serious questions about Hakimi's readiness for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The 26-year-old, who placed sixth in last year's Ballon d'Or voting, is central to Morocco's plans this summer. The Atlas Lions — semifinalists at the 2022 World Cup — open their campaign against Brazil on June 13.

With the timeline for his return described only as "a few weeks," Hakimi's availability for the tournament will depend heavily on how quickly he recovers.

Chevalier also sidelined

Hakimi is not the only PSG player dealing with a setback. The club announced on Wednesday that goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, who served as a substitute in the first leg against Bayern Munich, has suffered a thigh injury in training and faces a similarly lengthy absence.

Chevalier had lost his starting place to Matvei Safonov in the second half of the season, making his absence less disruptive — but it is another concern for PSG's medical staff as they prepare for a critical few weeks in Europe.
