Howe Looks Forward to Talks With Newcastle Owners Amid Turbulent Season

Eddie Howe says he welcomes the opportunity to speak directly with Newcastle United's owners next week, describing the forthcoming meetings as a chance to "express things from my perspective."

Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan and a delegation from Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) are scheduled to travel to the north east of England for a series of meetings at Matfen Hall in Northumberland. The gatherings were arranged well before Newcastle's recent slump to 14th place in the Premier League.

Similar summits were held last season and form part of a regular cycle of departmental reviews and discussions on future plans, including long-term infrastructure projects at the club.

"It's something that happens regularly so it's nothing out of the norm for us. I always like the chance to talk directly to the owners and to express things from my perspective. It's something we have always done and I look forward to that next week."

Scrutiny grows as results disappoint

Questions about Howe's future have grown louder among outside observers following a difficult run of eight defeats in 11 Premier League fixtures. Despite that external pressure, the head coach has remained deeply involved in preparations for next season, including pre-season planning and transfer discussions.

Howe acknowledged the scale of change that may be required, conceding there "might be bigger changes in the summer than was maybe previously thought."

Players under pressure too

The futures of several key players — among them Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento, and Sandro Tonali — are expected to dominate what promises to be a busy summer transfer window for the club.

Howe was candid about the demands placed on everyone at the club, players and staff alike.

"It's about attitude, commitment to the team. It's a high-demand, high-pressure role where you're constantly judged and people are making assessments over your future. There's a responsibility in every moment to try to be at your best. That responsibility falls on me as well to make sure I'm delivering the best I can for the players and staff to create an environment we can win in."

The head coach added that he believes the players understand the weight of expectation that comes with representing Newcastle United, and that accountability at every level of the club is simply part of the territory.
