Hull City face a Football Association charge following discriminatory chanting from their supporters during an FA Cup fourth-round defeat to Chelsea at the MKM Stadium in February.
Chelsea ran out 4-0 winners on the night, but the match was marred by offensive chanting directed at Chelsea's LGBTQ+ supporters. Stadium staff issued a public address warning to spectators during the latter stages of the first half, informing the crowd that CCTV cameras inside the ground were under active monitoring.
The FA alleges that Hull City failed to ensure their spectators did not use words or behave in a manner that was improper, offensive, abusive, indecent, or insulting with reference — whether express or implied — to sexual orientation.
Four men were arrested on suspicion of offensive chanting during the tie. Hull, who earned promotion to the Premier League last Saturday, have until Tuesday, 2 June to respond to the charge.
Chelsea Pride's response
Chelsea Pride, the official LGBTQ+ supporters' group for Chelsea, issued a statement condemning the incidents in the strongest terms.
