Josko Gvardiol's representatives have offered the Manchester City defender to Real Madrid, according to a report by AS, in a transfer development that could reshape both clubs' defensive plans ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 24-year-old Croatia international has endured a difficult campaign at the Etihad, making just 17 Premier League appearances and five in the UEFA Champions League after struggling with a persistent shin injury. The contrast with last season is stark — Gvardiol was near ever-present in 2023/24 and played an integral role as Manchester City lifted the Premier League title, contributing vital goals from a defensive position.

From title hero to the periphery

City paid £77 million to sign Gvardiol from RB Leipzig, a fee that initially looked well-spent given his early contributions. However, recurring injury setbacks this term have limited his influence considerably, and the emergence of Abdukodir Khusanov and Nico O'Reilly under manager Pep Guardiola has further reduced his standing in the squad.

Manchester City did win both domestic cups this season, culminating in Saturday's FA Cup final victory, but Gvardiol's role in those successes was peripheral.
