Liverpool Tell Alisson They Want Him to Stay as Juventus Move Collapses

Alisson Becker appears set to remain at Liverpool after the club told the Brazilian goalkeeper directly that he is central to their plans for the 2026/27 season, in a dramatic turn following months of links to Juventus.
Liverpool's direct plea to their goalkeeper
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool made their intentions clear to Alisson in no uncertain terms.
"Liverpool told Alisson 'we want you to stay, we want you to be our goalkeeper, we believe in you,'"Romano said, adding that the move to Juventus was contingent on Liverpool giving their keeper permission to leave — something the club never did.
Romano elaborated: "He never wanted to break his relationship or legacy with Liverpool as a legend. So that's never been the case" — referring to the possibility of Alisson forcing an exit against the club's wishes.
A turbulent season at Anfield
The 32-year-old endured a difficult, injury-interrupted campaign in 2025/26, which opened the door for Georgian deputy Giorgi Mamardashvili to stake his claim as first-choice. The former Valencia stopper, signed as a long-term successor to Alisson, failed to convince during his opportunities, keeping just 2 clean sheets in 10 Premier League appearances while conceding 18 goals.
Liverpool's season reflected those struggles in goal — the club secured Champions League qualification with the lowest points tally ever recorded in a 38-game Premier League season. Alisson himself may have featured for the last time at Anfield during a 1-1 draw with Brentford, a match that also served as a farewell occasion for Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson.
Juventus door closes
Despite Juventus offering Alisson a multi-year contract in April, with personal terms reportedly agreed between the parties, the Italian club's failure to qualify for the Champions League appears to have weakened their hand significantly. Juventus dropped points on the final day of the Serie A season, drawing 2-2 with Torino, as Cesc Fabregas' Como snatched the last Champions League spot with a 4-1 win over Cremonese. Roma, Napoli, and Inter Milan occupied the top three positions.
The prospect of Europa League football at Juventus, as opposed to Champions League football with Liverpool, now gives Alisson a compelling reason to stay on Merseyside — and with the club having made their desire to keep him explicit, the saga appears to be reaching its conclusion in Liverpool's favour.
