Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye conceded a single goal as Udinese fell 1-0 to Napoli in the final round of the Serie A season, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable campaign for the Nigerian shot-stopper.

How the goal arrived

Napoli came close within the opening two minutes when Alisson Santos cut inside and forced Okoye into a smart stop low to his left. The Brazilian's afternoon was cut short, however, when he appeared to injure his hamstring chasing a long ball and had to be replaced.

His substitute, Kevin De Bruyne, wasted little time making an impact. In the 24th minute, De Bruyne threaded an incisive pass to Hojlund, who took a couple of touches before drilling the ball into the bottom-left corner to settle the contest.

Napoli finish second, Udinese land tenth

The win lifted Napoli to 76 points for the season, sealing a second-place finish in the Italian top flight and securing their place in next season's UEFA Champions League. Udinese, meanwhile, ended the campaign on 50 points in tenth position.

Okoye's incredible season

Despite the defeat, Okoye's personal campaign was one to remember. The 30th Serie A appearance of his season brought his tally to 10 clean sheets and 32 goals conceded — numbers that earned him Udinese's Player of the Season award following what the club described as a phenomenal comeback.

Okoye had faced an early-season suspension, yet fought back to become the undisputed first-choice goalkeeper at the club. Head coach Kosta Runjaic singled out the Nigerian for praise, highlighting both his resilience and his mental fortitude across the campaign.

Runjaic revealed that Udinese invested heavily in helping Okoye rediscover his confidence during the difficult early period, with sporting director Gökhan İnler maintaining regular dialogue with the goalkeeper while the club's goalkeeping coaches worked intensively with him behind the scenes.
