Manchester City Rule Out Enzo Fernandez Move as Elliot Anderson Stays Top Transfer Priority

Manchester City have dismissed reports linking them with Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez and are focusing their summer recruitment efforts on Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Sky Sports News has confirmed.
Chelsea have placed a valuation of over £100 million on Fernandez, and the club have no desire to sell him. The Argentine is contracted at Stamford Bridge until 2032, and despite speculation over his future, a departure is not on Chelsea's agenda.
Anderson the man City want
Sky Sports News revealed last month that Manchester City are in pole position to land Anderson from Nottingham Forest, and that picture has not changed. Manchester United and Arsenal are also monitoring the midfielder, but City appear to be leading the race, with growing expectation that Anderson will move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Fernandez saga at Chelsea
Fernandez found himself dropped for two matches in April after publicly admitting he would welcome a move to Madrid. The player and his agent subsequently apologised for the comments, which came amid negotiations over improved terms at Chelsea.
Real Madrid are in the market for a midfielder this summer and Fernandez remains among their primary targets. Chelsea originally signed him from Benfica for €121 million in January 2023.
Maresca talks progressing
Meanwhile, City are continuing negotiations with Enzo Maresca over his appointment as Pep Guardiola's successor. Contrary to some reports, not all terms of a proposed three-year contract have been finalised, though a deal is expected to be concluded within days. Discussions are centred on the timing of his official appointment, the composition of his backroom team, and other fine details.
The club confirmed on Tuesday that Guardiola assistants Pep Ljinders and Kolo Toure are departing the Etihad, joining Lorenzo Buenaventura, Manel Estiarte, and Xabi Mancisidor in leaving the club.
Maresca departed Chelsea in acrimonious circumstances in January, with three-and-a-half years still remaining on his contract there. Chelsea's legal team are expected to scrutinise his next appointment closely, as compensation may be owed. The Blues were informed by Maresca last autumn that Manchester City had expressed interest in him as a long-term successor to Guardiola — a role Maresca had previously worked towards, having served as Guardiola's assistant during the 2022/23 season.
Other targets on City's radar
Beyond Anderson, City are exploring options in attack. Sky Sports News revealed last month that RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande and Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi are on their list of potential signings. Diomande is among the most coveted young talents in European football this summer, attracting interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich, among others.
Kroupi has impressed since joining Bournemouth last summer, contributing 10 goals in 28 Premier League appearances and establishing himself as one of the more promising young strikers in the division.
City's forward options are currently well-stocked, with Savinho and Jeremy Doku providing width and Omar Marmoush serving as backup to Erling Haaland through the middle. Right-back is another position City are actively assessing, with Feyenoord's Givairo Read among the players being tracked.
