Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum followed through on a promise Friday, handing over her personal ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening match.

Sheinbaum had pledged to give away the coveted seat rather than keep it for herself — and on Friday she made good on that commitment, passing the ticket along as promised.

The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada, will be one of the most-watched tournaments in football history. Mexico's role as a host nation makes the opening match a landmark occasion for the country.
