Éder Militão has suffered a hamstring injury during Real Madrid's 2-1 LaLiga victory over Alavés, but a source close to the player has told ESPN that the Brazil defender is not expected to miss the 2026 World Cup. Further tests will now be conducted to determine the full extent of the problem.

Madrid confirmed the diagnosis in an official statement on Thursday. "Following tests carried out today on our player Éder Militão by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the biceps femoris of his left leg," the club said. "His progress will be monitored."

Militão, 28, was withdrawn from the pitch just before halftime in Tuesday's league fixture against Alavés. The centre-back has endured a torrid run of fitness problems in recent seasons, limiting him to only 16 LaLiga appearances this campaign.

A history of serious injury

The Brazilian suffered cruciate ligament injuries in consecutive seasons — 2023-24 and 2024-25 — making his latest setback another unwelcome chapter in a difficult stretch for one of Madrid's most important defenders.

In the same statement released Thursday, Madrid also confirmed that midfielder Arda Güler sustained a hamstring injury to his right leg, compounding the club's fitness concerns as the season enters its final stretch.

Madrid's title hopes and what comes next

Real Madrid currently sit nine points behind leaders Barcelona with six LaLiga matches remaining, including a Clásico at Camp Nou on May 10. The title race looks increasingly difficult for Carlo Ancelotti's side.

On the international front, Brazil — now managed by former Madrid boss Ancelotti — are scheduled to play warm-up friendlies against Panama on May 31 and Egypt on June 7, ahead of their World Cup opener against Morocco on June 14.

The tournament draw pitting Brazil against Morocco gives African football fans a compelling group-stage clash to watch, with Morocco's Atlas Lions facing one of the tournament's traditional heavyweights in their opening fixture.
