Mohamed Salah Expected to Return for Liverpool Before Season Finale

Liverpool have confirmed that Mohamed Salah is expected to play again before the end of the current season, allaying fears that the Egyptian forward had already made his final appearance for the club.

Salah went down clutching his leg during Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday and was withdrawn just before the hour mark. The 33-year-old took an extended moment to applaud the home supporters as he left the pitch, visibly emotional as he did so.

A statement published on the club's official website confirmed the nature of the problem: "The issue that caused his withdrawal has now been confirmed as a minor muscle injury. It is, however, anticipated Salah will return to action ahead of 2025-26's conclusion and his departure from the Reds this summer."

A farewell still to come

Salah announced last month that he and Liverpool had agreed to bring his nine-year stay on Merseyside to an end this summer. With the club's final home fixture — against Brentford on 24 May — still on the horizon, there remains a fitting opportunity for Anfield to give him the send-off his career at the club deserves.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was eager to stress that Salah would receive a proper farewell regardless of whether he features in the remaining games.

"I know he is doing everything in his power to be back on the pitch as soon as possible. If you get injured at this stage of the season, especially in the situation he is in, there is only two more home games left for him — it's a combination of feelings that go through your mind," Van Dijk said.
"He will get the send-off regardless. I don't think that is the thing at this point, we shouldn't think too far ahead. Knowing Mo, he is a quick healer and with the right people around him — let's see."

Egypt's World Cup hopes boosted

The news also comes as a relief for Egypt ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign. Salah suffered an injury scare before the last time Egypt qualified for the tournament in 2018, and ultimately featured that summer at less than full fitness. His recovery this time around will be closely watched by Egyptian supporters hoping to see him at his best on the world stage.

Liverpool's remaining fixtures

Liverpool face Manchester United away on Sunday 3 May before hosting Chelsea on 9 May. They then travel to Aston Villa on 17 May, with the season concluding at home to Brentford on 24 May — the match widely regarded as the ideal occasion to bid Salah farewell.
