Onuachu Shortlisted for Turkish Süper Lig Goal of the Season

Paul Onuachu has been nominated for the Turkish Süper Lig Goal of the Season award, with the Nigerian striker's stunning scissor-kick finish earning him a place on the shortlist.
The acrobatic effort came during Trabzonspor's 4-2 win over Fatih Karagümrük in September, a strike that had already claimed the Süper Lig's Goal of the Month prize for that month. Despite his imposing physicality, Onuachu demonstrated extraordinary athleticism, connecting cleanly with the ball in mid-air to produce a finish that captivated Turkish football fans.
It was not the first time Onuachu caught the eye in 2024/25. The 32-year-old also claimed the August Goal of the Month award for a superb header against Samsunspor, underlining his versatility as a finisher.
A record-breaking season for the Black Sea Storm
Onuachu arrived at Trabzonspor from Southampton — a Sky Bet Championship club — last summer, and quickly established himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in Turkey. He ended the 2025/26 Süper Lig campaign as joint top scorer with 22 goals, sharing the Golden Boot with Eldor Shomurodov of İstanbul Başakşehir.
In reaching that tally, Onuachu became only the sixth player in Trabzonspor's history to finish a season as the league's leading scorer — a distinction that places him among the club's all-time greats. Across all competitions, the former KRC Genk forward contributed 26 goals and two assists in 43 appearances for the Claret and Blue.
Turkish Cup glory to cap a memorable campaign
Trabzonspor brought the curtain down on their season in style, defeating Konyaspor 2-1 in the Turkish Cup final to lift the trophy for a record 10th time. Onuachu was the hero of the occasion, scoring both goals in the hard-fought encounter.
His Nigerian compatriots, defender Chibuike Nwaiwu and veteran forward Anthony Nwakaeme, were also part of the squad that clinched the cup, making it a particularly proud moment for Nigerian football.
