Premier League Champions Arsenal Map Out Busy Summer Around Arteta Contract Extension

Arsenal are already plotting their summer transfer window strategy after securing the Premier League title — and plans reportedly centre on tying manager Mikel Arteta to a new long-term deal before bringing in significant reinforcements.

The Gunners clinched the championship earlier this week with a victory over Burnley, a result that was confirmed when Manchester City were held to a draw at Bournemouth. Arsenal now hold a four-point lead with one league fixture remaining, and their season extends further still — a Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain awaits the following week.

Arteta extension at the heart of summer plans

According to a report in The Mirror, Arsenal's standout campaign has convinced the club to act decisively in the market this summer. Central to those plans is securing Arteta on a new deal. His current contract expires next summer, and the club are said to be pursuing a two-year extension that is expected to include a pay rise.

The report frames the transfer activity as being built around that commitment to the manager, with Arsenal keen to consolidate their position as England's top side and European contenders.

Julián Alvarez leads the wishlist

Among the names linked with a move to the Emirates, Atlético Madrid forward Julián Alvarez stands out as the headline target. The Argentina international departed Manchester City two years ago in a €95 million deal and has flourished in Madrid, contributing 49 goals and 17 assists across 106 appearances for Atlético — including a goal against Arsenal in their recent Champions League semi-final.

Arsenal are also said to be targeting improvements in central midfield and on the left wing, as well as a versatile forward capable of operating across the front three.

Midfield options under consideration

Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali is reported to be of interest as a midfield option. The Italian has been at Newcastle since the summer of 2023 and has two years remaining on his contract, which may prompt the Magpies to consider selling. West Ham United's Mateus Fernandes and Porto's Victor Froholdt are named as potential alternatives should a deal for Tonali prove difficult to complete.

Departures expected too

Arsenal will not only be buyers this summer. The report states the club "will definitely have to sell," with Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Ethan Nwaneri among those who could leave the club ahead of the new season.
