Premier League Stars Dominate Netherlands' 26-Man World Cup Squad

Ronald Koeman has named his Netherlands squad for the 2026 World Cup, and the Premier League's fingerprints are all over it — 15 of the 26 players selected plying their trade in England's top flight.
A defence built in England
Six of the seven defenders in Koeman's squad come from Premier League clubs, making it the most English-heavy department in the group. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk leads the backline, with Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Micky van de Ven and Chelsea's Jorrel Hato also earning their places.
Arsenal's Jurrien Timber is included despite having missed every Gunners fixture since March due to an ankle injury. The full-back's selection is a show of faith from Koeman that he will be fit and available when the tournament begins. Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries is the only non-Premier League defender in the group.
Brighton, Liverpool, and City well represented
Brighton & Hove Albion contribute three players — goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, defender Jan Paul van Hecke, and midfielder Mats Wieffer — while Liverpool's Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo join Van Dijk in the squad. Manchester City pair Nathan Ake and Tijjani Reijnders also receive call-ups.
There is no place for Jeremie Frimpong, however, despite the full-back's recent form.
Sunderland's Roefs earns first senior nod
One of the more eye-catching inclusions is Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs, who has yet to win a senior cap for the Netherlands. He joins Verbruggen and Bayer Leverkusen's Mark Flekken in the goalkeeping ranks.
Also representing Sunderland is forward Brian Brobbey, while Bournemouth's Justin Kluivert and West Ham United's Crysencio Summerville round out the Premier League contingent in attack.
