Manchester City midfielder Rodri has declared that Spain possess everything required to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, pointing to the squad's quality, collective spirit, and hard-won experience as the foundations for a potential world title.

Chasing the world's biggest prize

Spain lifted the FIFA World Cup for the first time in 2010, and Rodri believes the current generation can match that achievement in North America next summer. The side's triumph at UEFA EURO 2024 under coach Luis de la Fuente has only intensified expectations that La Roja can carry that form onto the global stage.

"We've won the Nations League and a European Championship, and we're about to face the biggest challenge of all, which is to win a World Cup," Rodri told FIFA.com. "I think this group of players is ready to take that step. If we manage to win this World Cup, then we'd obviously etch our names into a special place in the history books."

Rodri was careful, however, not to draw direct comparisons with Spain's legendary golden generation. "I'd be hard-pressed to say we could go further, because I honestly believe they were the greatest generation of all time. No other team have managed to lift the European Championship crown twice and a World Cup," he said. "The current team are following our own path, and I reckon we've been doing a good job of things for quite some time now."

Identity built on humility and hard work

The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner also outlined the qualities that define Luis de la Fuente's side. "This team runs as if we were minnows and plays like heavyweights," Rodri said. "That's the identity that Luis has instilled in us since he came in: being humble, making sure we cover more ground than our opponents, and always being ready for any eventuality."

Rodri stressed that unity is the thread running through everything Spain do. "Apart from playing a very attractive brand of football, I believe we always display a very clear and visible sense of togetherness," he added. "I think that's the route to achieving great things."
