Tottenham Close In on Free Transfer for Bournemouth's Senesi

Tottenham are on the verge of signing Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi on a free transfer, with the deal progressing rapidly despite personal terms still to be agreed.

The 29-year-old defender chose not to accept a third contract extension offer from Bournemouth back in December, prompting the club to abandon retention efforts and opening the door to interest from clubs abroad. Senesi ultimately looks set to stay in the Premier League, however, with a move to Spurs nearing completion.

Tottenham's summer recruitment push also includes Scotland full-back Andy Robertson, who became a free agent after departing Liverpool at the end of the season.

A key figure on the south coast

Senesi was a near ever-present for Bournemouth this past season, missing only one league fixture as the club achieved a historic sixth-place finish and secured European football for the first time in their history.

The Argentine international, who has earned three senior caps, spent four years at Bournemouth after arriving from Feyenoord in 2022, making 128 appearances in total.

Spurs rebuild under de Zerbi

Tottenham endured a turbulent campaign, finishing 17th in the Premier League and coming dangerously close to relegation to the Championship before Roberto de Zerbi was appointed head coach in March and steadied the ship.

Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham spoke candidly about the scale of the rebuild required when he addressed BBC Sport this week.
