Tottenham Hotspur are edging towards the signing of Argentina international Marcos Senesi, with talks between the two parties described as progressing well this week.

The 29-year-old centre-back becomes a free agent following four seasons at Bournemouth, where he made 128 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with six goals and ten assists. Several clubs from LaLiga and Serie A have submitted offers, but Spurs appear to have moved to the front of the queue.

Sky Sports News understands that the prospect of remaining in the Premier League and relocating to London has been a priority for Senesi for some time — giving Tottenham a clear edge over their continental rivals.

Robertson deal within reach

Spurs are also optimistic about completing a move for Andy Robertson following the 32-year-old's departure from Liverpool. Tottenham had attempted to land the Scotland captain during the January transfer window, and that interest has since intensified.

Late approaches from Juventus have complicated matters slightly, but there is genuine confidence within the club that a deal can be wrapped up before Robertson leads Scotland at the World Cup.

Tel's desire to stay at Spurs

Meanwhile, forward Mathys Tel would ideally like to remain at Tottenham, according to Sky Sports News. The 21-year-old's central concern is finding stability — an environment in which he feels trusted and supported by the club.

It has been a turbulent 18 months for Tel at Spurs. He has worked under four different head coaches and endured back-to-back 17th-place finishes in the Premier League. His place in the squad was also inconsistent: initially omitted from the Champions League group by Thomas Frank, he was recalled in December to cover for Dominic Solanke, only to be dropped again once the striker returned from injury.

That uncertainty fuelled intense speculation about his future throughout the winter, with a number of European clubs registering strong interest.

A turning point under De Zerbi

Tel's form has notably improved since Roberto De Zerbi took charge, with the manager placing his trust in the Frenchman from the moment he came off the bench at Wolverhampton Wanderers in late April. Tel won the corner that led to Joao Palhinha's decisive goal — Spurs' first league win of 2026 — in what proved a pivotal moment for both club and player.

He started the final four matches of the season on the left flank, contributing a goal and an assist that played a significant part in Tottenham's survival.

Tel's goal in the 1-1 draw with Leeds United came at a personal cost — he also conceded the penalty for the equaliser — but De Zerbi publicly backed him after the error and continued to select him for the most critical fixtures.

The season had a painful beginning too. Tel was subjected to racial abuse on social media after missing a penalty in Spurs' Super Cup final shoot-out defeat to Paris Saint-Germain — an incident that is understood to have affected him deeply. Having endured so much, Tel now feels he is at a defining stage of his career, and he hopes the right conditions to grow will be found at Tottenham under De Zerbi.
