Trippier Agrees Wolves Move as Newcastle Departure Confirmed

Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the verge of landing Kieran Trippier, with the former England right-back having verbally committed to a move to Molineux following his exit from Newcastle United.
The 35-year-old is set to join on a free transfer, with a two-year contract on the table and an option to extend by a further 12 months. The deal would make Trippier manager Rob Edwards' first signing of the summer.
End of an era at St James' Park
Trippier departs Newcastle after four-and-a-half years at St James' Park, during which he made 160 appearances and scored four goals. His final season with the club ended on a high — he was part of the squad that lifted the Carabao Cup in 2025, the club's first piece of silverware since 1955.
A career decorated with honours
Before his time in the north-east of England, Trippier made his name in Spain, winning La Liga with Atletico Madrid in the 2020-21 season. He was also a Champions League finalist in 2019 with Tottenham, where Spurs were beaten in the final.
Internationally, Trippier earned 54 caps for England, netting a memorable free kick in the 2018 World Cup semi-final and starting the Euro 2020 final before calling time on his international career in 2024.
Wolves rebuild after Premier League relegation
Wolverhampton Wanderers are rebuilding from the ground up after finishing bottom of the Premier League, bringing an eight-year spell in the top flight to an end — during which they managed only three wins in their final season.
The club's leadership acknowledge that a lack of experienced players and insufficient understanding of the club's culture contributed to their downfall. As a result, homegrown signings are the priority this summer, though experience — as evidenced by the Trippier pursuit — is also a key target.
Wolves currently have no room in their squad for non-homegrown players until further departures are finalised. Goalkeeper Jose Sa and forward Hwang Hee-chan are both expected to leave, as is midfielder Ladislav Krejci. However, Mateus Mane — who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign — is set to remain at Molineux.
