Former Nigeria defender Ifeanyi Udeze has thrown his full support behind debutant Femi Azeez, insisting the Millwall winger has the quality to become a key figure for the Super Eagles.

Udeze was speaking after Azeez lit up the Unity Cup with a two-goal performance against Zimbabwe — a display the ex-PAOK man described as thoroughly impressive.

"I watched Azeez against Zimbabwe, and I was really delighted with the way he played. He was everywhere and gave Zimbabwe some moments of nightmares. I want to see more of this performance against Jamaica and subsequent games that the Super Eagles will play."

Udeze, speaking on Brila FM, believes the performance against Zimbabwe was only a glimpse of what the winger can contribute to the national team going forward.

The Super Eagles, current holders of the Unity Cup, are set to defend their crown against Jamaica in Saturday's final in London. Head coach Éric Chelle has made clear that his side are targeting nothing less than victory in the showpiece.

Beyond the Unity Cup, Nigeria have two prestigious international friendlies lined up during the June 2026 FIFA window. The Super Eagles face Poland on June 3 at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw, before travelling to meet Portugal on June 10 at a venue yet to be confirmed in Portugal.

For Portugal, the clash will serve as their final warm-up before heading to North America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Nigeria, three-time African champions, will be absent from that tournament — missing the World Cup for a second consecutive time after also failing to qualify for the 2022 edition in Qatar.

With competitive fixtures against Jamaica, Poland, and a World Cup-bound Portugal all on the schedule, Udeze's message is clear: Azeez should be given every opportunity to prove his worth in an Eagles shirt.
