Wrexham have congratulated goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo following his first appearance for the Super Eagles, a debut that ended with a clean sheet in Nigeria's 2-0 Unity Cup semi-final victory over Zimbabwe on Tuesday night.

A surprise selection that paid off

Okonkwo's inclusion in the starting lineup caught many observers off guard, with head coach preferring the 24-year-old over the more experienced Francis Uzoho between the posts. The former Arsenal academy product had a quiet first half but produced a crucial save with 20 minutes remaining to preserve the clean sheet.

Millwall winger Femi Azeez was the star of the show outfield, scoring both goals to send Nigeria into the Unity Cup final.

Allegiance switch confirmed

Okonkwo's Super Eagles debut comes after a significant administrative milestone. Having represented England at various youth levels, he formally switched his international allegiance to Nigeria — a move FIFA confirmed on 6 April 2026.
