South Korea winger Yang Hyun-jun has signed a new contract with Celtic that will keep him at the club until 2030, declaring that "my future is here" after penning the deal.

The 23-year-old, who holds eight senior caps for South Korea, arrived at Celtic Park from Gangwon FC in 2023 and has since made 111 appearances, contributing 17 goals along the way.

During his time in Glasgow, Yang has collected three Scottish Premiership titles, a League Cup, and a Scottish Cup winner's medal. He could add another domestic honour this weekend, with Celtic set to face Dunfermline Athletic in Saturday's Scottish Cup final.

"I love this club and my future is here. I'm happy, and though the season was a little bit hard, we are champions and hopefully next season it will be easier. I also want to show better performances in the European games."

Yang delivered those words to Celtic TV, expressing his desire to build on an already impressive spell at the club.

O'Neill's relief over failed Birmingham move

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill revealed that the winger had been close to joining Birmingham City on transfer deadline day — and admitted he is relieved the move never materialised.

"I'm absolutely delighted, because on transfer deadline day he was down at Birmingham City, so I'm pleased that didn't go through."

O'Neill acknowledged that he was unfamiliar with Yang at the time but sensed something special about him in training from the outset. "There was something about him in training that you felt he's got a bit of something — he can go past players, he can deal with the ball, all those particular things," the manager said.

He credited a boost in confidence as a key factor in Yang's development, while also highlighting the winger's composure and courage in high-pressure moments. "He's got big, big goals for us at big moments and he's brave as well. He takes the ball under pressure," O'Neill added.

The Celtic boss also noted that Yang's consistent performances have earned him a recall to the South Korea national team setup, describing the winger simply as "super."
